Purpose of the role:
This role is responsible for developing metal shop fittings and display equipment by being the link between customers’ concepts and designs and the fabrication process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Working closely with customers and their product designs you will develop their ideas into technical designs and prototypes for production, ensuring the finished products meet customer expectations and can be made reliably and consistently.
Within this role you will be responsible for estimating and preparing quotations for each element of the project(s), ensuring that budgets and design briefs are adhered to at all times to achieve and exceed customer expectations.
Combining your knowledge of design-engineering, value engineering, manufacturing process and retail display equipment, you will produce functional products and manufacturing specifications, with consideration for quality and cost, safety and environment.
Duties include:
Preparing budget costs or full estimates from customer specifications and drawings given by the client, in the most competitive and cost effective manner to achieve maximum profitability for the company and quality products and services for clients.
Of utmost importance it is essential to maintain consistent and excellent service to existing and new clients, to meet and exceed their needs and expectations.
You will need:
- Knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes gained within a metalwork environment
- Experience of engineering metal shopfittings and retail display equipment (too much? Also below)
- Hands-on product development and engineering experience within a production environment
- Problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively both internally and externally
- The ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with colleagues and clients
- Ability to control and manage a varied pre/post work load in a demanding industry
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Understanding of cost estimating, ideally from a bespoke prospective
- Commercial awareness of wider business demands
- Ability to work well and integrate in a small business environment/team
- An engineering qualification – ideally foundation degree, HNC/HND or degree
In addition you will need to possess a full UK Driving Licence as travel to clients will be required.
Hands-on experience of engineering metal display equipment and awareness of the impact of retail display design in the store environment are important, and knowledge of CAD (computer aided design) will be advantageous.
